WE kick off our weekly series of Top Five by naming our top five coffee shops in the south west.
ONE: Ristretto & Co, Northumberland Street, Liverpool – Surry Hills comes to the south west. Frank and his team have created a splendid little coffee joint that serves the best coffee for miles around. The rear courtyard is a great little spot for a light business lunch, and it’s no wonder Frank will have to start taking table bookings soon.
TWO: Coco Cubano, Kellicar Lane, Macarthur Square, Campbelltown – Newtown comes to the southern part of our south west. This is a real cool place, packed with Cuban memorabilia, including pictures of Che and Fidel and complemented by a Cuban cigar display. Unfortunately you can’t smoke the cigars, but you can take them home to enjoy. Comfortable lounge chairs, delicious Cuban food and, the icing on the cake, terrific coffee. What more could you want?
THREE: Barenz, Argyle Street, Camden. The influence of the incomparable Enzo is there for all to see in the place run by his sons and which just oozes class. Of course it is more than a coffee shop, much more, with first class food and a bar that serves great cocktails as well as good wines and beers. A great place to finish at after dinner in Camden, for either one for the road or a great quality coffee.
FOUR: Courtside Café, Bigge Park, Liverpool. The great outdoors combined with excellent coffee are on offer here. Add warm and friendly service and this place has it all. No wonder it is packed with customers all day, Monday to Friday.
FIVE: We stay in Liverpool for the last of our Top 5, Cavallaros, Westfield Shoppingtown, Liverpool. Sam’s team serve great Vittoria coffee, but the major attraction for some of us is in the wide variety of Italian sweets on offer, simply delicious.
