Police have charged a fourth person over the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl at Liverpool last month.
Just before 9.30pm on Saturday, June 21, the 16-year-old was approached by a group of six males in the forecourt of Liverpool Library on George Street. The girl walked to a nearby car park with the group, believing she was meeting a mutual friend, before she was sexually assaulted in a stairwell.
The girl’s mobile phone was stolen from her handbag during the assault. Police were alerted after the group fled and officers from Liverpool Local Area Command attended the scene.
Detectives established Strike Force Merom to investigate the alleged incident. Following inquiries, three search warrants were executed at homes in Warwick Farm, Cabramatta and Regents Park on Tuesday, July 22. Three people – a 20-year-old man and two 16-year-old boys – were arrested and taken to Liverpool Police Station.
All three were charged and appeared in court on July 23.
Following subsequent inquiries, another 20-year-old man was arrested at a Cabramatta home on July 24. He was taken to Cabramatta Police Station where he was charged with aggravated sexual assault and robbery. The man was refused bail and appeared at Liverpool Local Court on July 25.
Inquiries by Strike Force Merom are continuing.
