The Camden Campbelltown Ghosts first grade cricket side travelled to Waverley Oval on Saturday to contest the round five clash against Eastern Suburbs.
Upon winning the toss, skipper Scott Coyte elected to bat on the picturesque ground.
The Ghosts were dismissed after 72 overs for 253 on a fairly good batting wicket, a total that currently appears short of the desired runs against the talented Roosters batting line up.
Three Ghosts batsmen figured prominently throughout the first part of the day.
Ryan Gibson scored another half century to take him past 600 runs in the first five matches of the premiership. He was caught for 52, whilst Scott Coyte played nicely for 73 runs. Damien Mortimer occupied the crease for two and a half hours as he compiled 61 runs combining nicely with Coyte for a much needed 100 partnership when the Ghosts were 4 for 97.
The afternoon session for the Ghosts was a tough one with strike bowler Scott Coyte unable to bowl due to injury.
NSW opening bat Nick Maddinson posted 50 not out to put the Roosters in a nice day one position.
The Ghosts have a tough task ahead of them next Saturday when they return to Waverly with Easts at 1/116.
On Raby # 1 the Ghosts’ second grade team won the toss and compiled a respectable total of 286.
Nicky Craze (59 runs), Abdul Kherkhah (54 runs) and Tristan Muir (40 runs) ensured the Ghosts bowlers had a decent total to defend. At stumps the visitors were 1/26 with the Ghosts in a good position heading into next Saturday’s play.
At Trumper Park in the third grade fixture the Roosters were dismissed for 247. In return the Ghosts were 0/21.
In fourth grade, the Ghosts look set to cruise to a comfortable win given the Easts total of all out for just 128 on Raby # 2.
However, at stumps the Ghosts were 5/80 but with one decent partnership next Saturday they should secure the points.
Earlier in the day’s play the wickets were shared. Ryan Smith 3/46, Luke Courtney 2/8, Lachlan Bolwell 2/44 and Jaidyn Hankin 2/31 united to dismiss the Roosters.
An inexperienced and young Ghosts fifth grade were unfortunate to meet a red hot Easts side at Snape Park. The Ghosts were dismissed for 60 in their first innings and currently find themselves chasing a lead of 85 when they return to Maroubra next Saturday.
* The Fairfield Liverpool Lions travelled to Mosman and the Allan Border Oval for their round five clash and had the locals at 1/38 at stumps. The Lions had amassed 284 before losing all their wickets, thanks to contribution from Jake Doraqn (73) Dean Attard (46) and Wendel Delpechitra (39).
