The Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Lake, has ceremoniously taken a sledgehammer to the existing amenities building at Bradbury Park, making way for a more modern facility set to benefit a number of local sporting groups and the wider community.
The upgrade forms part of Council’s Renew-Connect-Revitalise city-wide improvement works program, which is being rolled out across Campbelltown City.
Demolition of the amenities building will commence this Wednesday, November 19, and take approximately two weeks, with construction of the new facility set to start soon after.
The new amenities facility, which is set to be completed by April next year, will consist of male and female toilets, four change rooms, a modern canteen, a player’s recovery room, referees’ room and club storage areas.
The basketball courts have also undergone a revamp, with the replacement of all backboards, posts and rings this week. New cricket practice nets have also been installed at Bradbury Park, enhancing the variety of recreational opportunities available for the community at the site and complementing the range of facilities available at the adjacent Gordon Fetterplace Aquatic Centre.
Bradbury Park is currently home to the Campbelltown Collegians Junior Rugby League Football Club, Bradbury Cricket Club and the Campbelltown Joggers Club – all of which are excited about the upgrade of the facility.
Acknowledging the significance of the sporting groups to the area, the new facility will feature metal silhouettes of a cricketer, a footballer and a runner on the building’s façade.
Councillor Lake, said the new amenities building would be a great investment in local sport.
“Bradbury Park is one of our city’s most well-utilised and prominent recreational facilities, and council looks forward to delivering a brand new amenities facility, catering for the growing needs of local sporting groups, and the wider community, well into the future,” Cr Lake said.
To ensure the safety of the site during the works, power will be disconnected at the site from Wednesday, with floodlighting unavailable at the adjacent basketball courts for the duration of works.
