Plans for a “Silicon Valley’’ in central Sydney made a mockery of the potential employment crisis facing Macarthur residents, says Campbelltown MP Greg Warren.
The innovation precinct would be located in between Central Station and Eveleigh and would create 10,000 tech jobs.
Mr Warren said with the population of Campbelltown and the wider Macarthur set to boom, the Premier should be focused on creating jobs in Macarthur, not on concentrating even more jobs in the inner city.
Mr Warren has called on the Premier to urgently reveal details on what their plans are to deliver the thousands of jobs that will be needed in the Macarthur region to cater for our rapidly growing population.
“The announcement of a Silicon Valley in inner Sydney is further proof that this state government’s priorities are way off the mark when it comes to job creation,’’ he said yesterday.
“I would never rob Peter to pay Paul, but this is not an announcement I can celebrate when we still aren’t seeing any investment in job creation in our region.
“Campbelltown and the wider Macarthur region are in the midst of a population boom, yet this government has no concrete plans for job creation in the region.

“It’s no good dumping thousands of new residents out here without provisions for additional local jobs.
“Without local jobs, residents will be forced to clog up already congested motorways or rely on what can be best described as sub-standard public transport.’’
