The chairman of the board at the South Western Sydney Local Health District, Professor Phillip Harris, says the role of a board member is an “extremely rewarding one’’.
“Board members play a pivotal role in setting the strategic direction and accountability for managing our public hospitals and health institutions,” Prof Harris said.
“They play an integral part in representing the interests of the consumers of our health services.”
The reason for his comments is that the South Western Sydney Local Health District is seeking nominations for its board from members of the local community.
The Local Health District boards consist of six to 13 members, all appointed by the Minister for Health, who play a leadership role in the delivery of world class healthcare to their community.
The South Western Sydney Local Health District includes metropolitan and rural communities in the local government areas of Bankstown, Liverpool, Fairfield, Campbelltown, Camden, Wollondilly and Wingecarribee.

The selection criteria ensures board members have an appropriate mix of skills, experience and expertise to oversee and provide guidance to large and complex organisations.
