[dropcap]T[/dropcap]wo well known advocates for Campbelltown were yesterday presented with awards recognising their efforts to promote the place they grew up in.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, presented the awards to solicitor Jim Marsden and TV presenter Lisa Wilkinson during the launch of Re-Imagining Campbelltown in the NSW Parliament.

Re-Imagining Campbelltown is a draft vision for Campbelltown City’s future prepared by consultants Delloite Australia.

Cr Brticevic said Marsden and Wilkinson were fitting recipients for the awards, as the presentation recognised a new and exciting future vision for Campbelltown City that council had been working on.

The Re-Imagining Campbelltown launch gained some coverage on last night’s TV news on Nine.

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]ydney Royal Easter Show is an unusual place to buy firewood, but it makes sense when you think about it. For sale to the public will be wood which will be used in the iconic woodchop competitions at the Show beginning Friday, March 23.

Woodchop competition is held on 11 of the 12 days of the Sydney Royal Easter Show and hundreds of tons of timber selected for the events is eventually sold to home owners or businesses.

Around 450 tonnes of wood is used during 11 days of competition as athletes will cut through 4,000 blocks of wood and 110 tree poles.

The wood is being sold at $650 for a 20 cubic metres bin and the RAS is offering free delivery within a 55 kilometre radius of Sydney Olympic Park.

Cr George Greiss
Cr Bob Thompson may disagree withe the suggestion Cr George Greiss may be the new ”mayor of Ingleburn”.

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]s George Greiss the new “mayor’’ of Ingleburn? His council colleague, Bob Thompson probably disagrees, but there’s no doubt Cr Greiss, who represents the Liberal Party on Campbelltown Council, is becoming more and more well known, as the Voice found out during an interview with him at an outdoor table of a café in Nardoo Street a couple of weeks ago.

“Thommo’’ has the advantage of having been on council a lot longer that Cr Greiss, having been first elected way back in 1991.

It make him the second longest serving councillor after Labor’s Meg Oates, first elected in 1987.

But if he wants to keep the “Mayor of Ingleburn’’ crown he may have to get out to Oxford Road for coffee a bit more.

[dropcap]P[/dropcap]icton’s historic rail bridge and the town itself feature in a new promotional video for NSW as a great place to shoot movies.

Wollondilly MP Jai Rowell said it was no surprise that Picton starred as one of the most scenic and interesting areas of the state in the three-minute A place for every story video.

“I am delighted that Wollondilly is being marketed on the world stage,’’ he said yesterday. View the video at https://vimeo.com/253749765/c74135aa1a

 Luke Mangan
Celebrity chef Luke Mangan, second from left, at yesterday’s Long Lunch at Camden High.

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]t yesterday’s Long Lunch at Camden High School celebrity chef Luke Mangan was marketed as the star turn for the launch of the pilot project.

And he was, but by the end of the day the local students were the real stars of the show, having served up a terrific three course meal.

The other interesting thing about the Long Lunch was that the two lead teachers at Camden High School used to be chefs, Cindy Cunningham and Rebecca Lawlor.

And then there was Michael Everett, who deserves a lot of the credit for the concept.

Everett, who works for mwlp linking youth, is also a former chef and the brother of in macarthur magazine publisher David.

Yesterday, Michael Everett swapped the suit for a chef’s apron as he calmly guided the chefs of the future in Camden High’s state of the art kitchen.

  1. There is nobody like Jim and John Marsden for their support of Campbelltown and MacArthur over so many years and Lisa has always acknowledge her roots as a Campbelltown girl who shared her school with my girls and is a great roll model for women of the West
