An 18 year old teenager was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital just after 1pm after getting into difficulty while having a swim with friends at the Basin, a popular Georges River water hole in Kentlyn.
Emergency service personnel said the boy was in a stable condition after being winched out of the water by rescue helicopter crew.
According to reports from Kentlyn residents who were at the Basin at the time, the boy was swimming with mates when he went under.
One of his mates pulled him from the water and initial reports suggested the teen was unconscious before the emergency services arrived on the scene.
The Basin is located more than a kilometre from the northern end of Georges River Road at Kentlyn.
Getting to the Basin also involves walking down steep steps built by Campbelltown Council a few years ago.

• In other police news, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Unit, who’ve been investigating an alleged sexual assault near Camden last year, are appealing for a potential witness to come forward.
Officers have been told that in April or May 2017, a 15-year-old girl was walking in an isolated area in The Oaks, about 15km west of Camden, when she was allegedly sexually assaulted.
A man, believed to be in his early to mid-20s, of Caucasian appearance and with a slim build, was jogging at the Dudley Chesham Sports Ground in the Oaks and interrupted the alleged assault.
He stayed with the girl for a short time before leaving the area.
Detectives are appealing for this “Good Samaritan’’ to contact police, as he may have information that may assist in the investigation.
