Local federal MP Angus Taylor has been given a lead role in helping to drive major reform that will bolster Australia’s national security.
Mr Taylor was sworn in on Wednesday by the Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove, as the new Minister for Law Enforcement and Cyber Security.
His appointment was part of a full scale ministerial reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull earlier in the week.
Mr Taylor is the Member for the federal seat of Hume, which
Includes a sizeable part of the southern part of the Macarthur region.
He was previously assistant minister for cities.
“This is a fantastic new challenge for me, working with the new Department of Home Affairs to keep Australia safe and competitive in an increasingly digital world,” Mr Taylor said after being sworn in.
“It’s an absolute honour to be given the opportunity to work with Australia’s national security and law enforcement agencies, which are world leaders.

The Department of Home Affairs will keep Australians safer by ensuring full coordination between ASIO, the AFP, Australian Border Force, the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission and AUSTRAC.
Mr Taylor said he was looking forward to working closely with Minister for Home Affairs Peter Dutton, Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs Alan Tudge, and Assistant Minister for Home Affairs Alex Hawke.
