Join Australia’s largest community tree planting and bushcare event, National Tree Day on Sunday, July 30, to boost connectivity for Campbelltown’s koala population.
Campbelltown City Council will hold planting and bushcare activities between 9am and midday at Noorumba Reserve, Rosemeadow, where a wildlife camera recently photographed a koala, and a number of koala sightings have been reported.
National Tree Day started in 1996, and in that time more than three million people have planted 23 million seedlings.
Deputy mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Meg Oates, said National Tree Day was a great opportunity for locals to get involved in a national campaign, and have a positive impact on the environment and local koala habitat.
“Participants will play a hands-on role at Noorumba Reserve on the day, getting their hands dirty planting seedlings and caring for our native trees and shrubs, contributing to creating a more sustainable future for our city, and enhancing koala habitat,” she said.
“They will also have the opportunity to learn more about council’s many Bushcare groups and activities.”
Enter Noorumba Reserve at the corner of Lysander Avenue and Archibald Crescent, Rosemeadow.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome, and should wear enclosed shoes (such as sneakers), with long pants and long sleeves also recommended.
Gloves, tools and equipment for planting, including watering cans/buckets will be provided on the day, along with drinking water and snacks.
