MP Angus Taylor
MP Angus Taylor: mystery photo with famous grandpa no longer available for publication.

A media release last week from Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said that the Turnbull Government’s expansion of the iconic Snowy Hydro scheme will “continue the innovative nation building post war work of his grandfather, the chief engineer of the original Snowy’’.

That certainly got our attention, so we read on:

“As the grandson of Sir William Hudson – the commissioner and chief engineer of the Snowy Scheme throughout construction – I’m incredibly proud that the Snowy will play such an important role in our future, not just our past,” Mr Taylor said.

“My grandfather believed that one of the Snowy’s greatest engineering attributes was its ability to provide pump storage.’’

Well, we were impressed enough to request a photo of our MP and his grandpa Hudson, and were promptly told, that yep, there was one such image we could use with the story.

A few days went by and nothing happened, so we emailed to ask what was going on, only to be told that we wouldn’t be able to use that photo after all.

It’s all a bit of a mystery but if we ever find out what’s going on you dear readers will be the first to know.

On the morning of June 13 last year, Glenfield resident Bill Shaw tried to make a citizen’s arrest.

Mr Shaw was standing outside the front of a shop on Railway Parade, Glenfield, when he heard noises coming from inside the premises.

Believing the shop owner to be in need of assistance, he immediately entered the shop.

As he went inside, a man ran towards him carrying a knife.

Mr Shaw grabbed the offender and pushed him into a display stand in an attempt to prevent him from leaving the shop.

The offender then assaulted him, striking him in the face and back.

Unable to continue to restrain the man Mr Shaw loosened his grip and the offender fled.

Mr Shaw was later treated at the scene by emergency services personnel.

This week Mr William John Shaw received an Australian Bravery Award for his actions that day in Glenfield.

Mr Shaw was one of 26 Australians named by the Governor-General, Peter Cosgrove in this year’s Australian Bravery Decorations.

“To the Australians being honoured today, I offer my warmest congratulations and express my sincere gratitude for your contribution to our nation,” the Governor-General said.

AFL premiership favourites, the Greater Western Sydney Giants, started the 2017 season with a loss but last week they kicked plenty of goals when players Tim Taranto, Harry Himmelberg and Matt Kennedy made their mark for kids in Campbelltown Hospital’s paediatric ward by giving them each a show bag full of goodies to take home when they get better.

The boys are pictured below during their visit.
