Two men allegedly taking part in street racing have been charged after a pedestrian was seriously injured in a crash at Glenfield yesterday.
About 1.45pm (Wednesday, February 22), emergency services were called to Canterbury Road, after reports of a crash.
Police will allege a blue Toyota Camry and a white Subaru Impreza were street racing when they collided with each other.
The Toyota Camry spun, hit the kerb, and began to flip, impacting heavily with a pedestrian crossing Gazelle Street, before coming to rest on its roof on the front lawn of a home.
The Subaru Impreza pulled over nearby.
Officers from Macquarie Fields Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene, with the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit attending.
The pedestrian, a 23-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Liverpool Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
The driver of the Toyota Camry, a 20-year-old man, and the driver of the Subaru Impreza, a 28-year-old man, were uninjured.
Both men were arrested and taken to Macquarie Fields Police Station and charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.
They were also charged with organising and promoting a race between vehicles, negligent driving (occasioning grievous bodily harm).
The 20-year-old man was also charged with driving a vehicle on the road without ever having obtained a driver’s licence.
Both men were granted conditional bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on Tuesday, March 14.
Two male passengers in the Toyota Camry, aged 22 and 30, were also uninjured.
