A man will face court later this month after a dog died of stab wounds at Airds just after midnight.

Police say a 34-year-old man and 45-year-old woman were drinking outside a residence on Hazeldean Place, when the woman’s pet dog became spooked by fireworks.

Police have been told the dog bit in the leg and groin a 26-year-old man who was at a nearby house.

The animal was taken to a local vet, but had to be euthanized due to the extent of the injuries.

Police were called and the man was arrested.

He was charged with torture and beat/cause death of animal, stalk/intimidate and trespass.

The accused was granted conditional bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on January 23.
