Everyone loves a parade, but where was everyone when Campbelltown’s 2016 Fisher’s Ghost festival parade took place just after lunch today?
Council has admitted that a night time parade is on the cards for next year.
But those who took part in the parade down Queen Street today did not care that it was the first or last day time one.
There were some brilliant floats and entries today, which made it even more disappointing that the crowds that used to turn Queen Street into a proverbial sardine can stayed away.
But let’s focus on the positives and there were plenty on offer for local residents and visitors to our town who braved the heat and windy conditions to watch the parade.
The Tartan Army was once again a highlight with some brilliant traditional Scottish costumes on show from participants young and old.
The local Bolivian community gave the Scots a run for their money with colourful gear that brought to mind the great Carmen Miranda.
Also getting in on the act were the Filipino and Indian communities of Campbelltown, with some wonderful entries.
Local schools got into the Fisher’s Ghost spirit with some ghoulish entries, while sporting clubs also played a leading role in the parade.
Members of the rugby league premiership winning club East Campbelltown Eagles marched today, proudly wearing the club’s red and white colours.
The parade marked the official start of the festival.
Also under way is the Fisher’s Ghost Carnival at Bradbury Oval, packed with fun and excitement for the whole family,
Fisher’s Gig is also on tonight, as well as one of two fireworks during the festival from 9pm.
And all of the fun of the fair is set to return when the festival descends on Mawson Park and Queen Street for the annual Street Fair next Saturday, November 12.
