Start the school year with a healthy dose of fun and fitness, by enrolling your children in the 2016 Go4Fun program.
With childhood obesity rates sitting slightly higher than the state average within South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD), Healthy Children’s Initiative manager Claire Southwood Jones says there was no better time for families to make healthy habits stick.
“Go4Fun is a healthy lifestyle program offered without charge to kids aged seven to 13 who are above a healthy weight,” Ms Southwood Jones said.
“Parents can get involved in the program too – learning about healthy eating and physical activity through fun activities and games.
“We’ve seen children come through the programs with improved self esteem and confidence; newly developed fitness levels and sporting skills; and all-round improved health.”
Ms Southwood Jones said a balanced diet also helped children concentrate at school, helping their learning and mood.
The program provides parents with advice on weight and role modelling, and nutritional information on food serving sizes and label reading, in a supporting environment.
