Splash: cooling off is a must during our long, hot Aussie summer school holidays

The school holidays are finally here.

Now it’s time to plan and book in some warm weather fun with Campbelltown City Council’s Summer School Holiday Program.

Campbelltown City’s four library branches offer a great range of activities to keep kids busy during the break, from puppet making for under 12s to a self-defence workshop for under 18s.

How about a magic show or a treasure hunt adventure? There’s even a Lego robot programming class for older kids.

Families can make a splash at three great hubs, Macquarie Fields Leisure Centre, Gordon Fetterplace Aquatic Centre in Bradbury and Eagle Vale Central, with all pools offering an intensive learn to swim program as well as fun afternoons with pool inflatables on designated days.

For those who like their fun on two wheels, the Campbelltown Bicycle Education and Road Safety Centre is open from 10am to 3pm on Sundays, as well as weekdays during school holidays.

Free activities during the holidays include skills and ramp circuits every Monday, a jumping castle on Wednesdays and a bicycle education competition on Fridays. Entry is free – just bring your own bike or scooter and helmet!

If it’s creative pursuits that you’re looking for, head to Campbelltown Arts Centre for family clay sculpting sessions, acting workshops with NIDA or the chance to create your very own comic book using a range of design techniques.

Campbelltown City and Eagle Vale School Holiday Care centres also offer a range of excursions and theme days – a great option for parents needing a hand with care requirements during the school break.

Available from 7am to 6pm daily, every day boasts a new activity, from plaster craft and a hip hop dance class, to rock climbing and aqua-golf excursions. Parents are advised to book early to avoid missing out.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, said the school holiday program was part of council’s commitment to providing a range of recreational opportunities for residents of all ages.

“With such a diverse program of events and activities, there is something for kids of all ages and interests.

“Our school holiday programs are very popular, especially over summer, so I encourage parents and care givers to book early to avoid disappointment,” Cr Hawker said.
