Margaret Chivers – founder of Boxes for Christmas, teacher and long term local mum – has received a NSW Government Community Service award by Campbelltown MP Greg Warren.
The award was recognition of Ms Chivers’ contribution to special needs education and charity.
Ms Chivers has been a local teacher for children with special needs for over two decades, and is the founder of Boxes for Christmas – a local charity which provides elderly residents living alone in aged care with a small gift every Christmas.
“This award doesn’t just belong to me – it belongs to everyone that I am blessed to work with and who give so much to help others,” Ms Chivers said.
“I’m proud to have founded the Boxes for Christmas Charity, which gives a small Christmas present to our friends in aged care facilities around Australia. More often than not, our present is the only one they receive.”
The NSW Government Community Service award recognises individuals throughout NSW who have substantially contributed to the improvement of the quality of life of members of their community, beyond that expected in their usual occupation.
Mr Warren, like every other MP, is entitled to present two such awards each year in his electorate of Campbelltown.
Ms Chivers receive an engraved award as well as an official certificate bearing the NSW coat of arms along with the signatures of Mr Warren and the Premier of NSW, Mike Baird.

“There are so many people I could nominate, but I only get two so I wanted to make sure the people I selected represent the good nature of our people – I felt that Ms Chivers is an outstanding local that does this.”
