Some may say it’s a little early for a review of the year, but not for me. In fact, I am happy to confess that I am such a devotee of the “review and improve’’ school of thought that I start looking back before the first week of February expires.
But let’s be honest, there’s no right or wrong here, so let’s get back to what is almost certain to be the year’s first year in review on the internet!
Of course, it’s personal, but what else can it be? I can’t review your year, dear readers, but by all means send me your best 5 things you did or would have liked to have done.
What I think is really interesting is that in mentally going through the year, almost 11 months of it so far, it dawns on you how much stuff you have packed into it.
Which contradicts the day to day and week to week feeling we all get that time seems to fly.
Be that as it may, and getting back to our year in review, it seems that the only regrets you may have are about the things you didn’t do.
Which apparently is also the case as we lie on our death bed, thinking about the things we would have loved to have done but didn’t get around to them.
So, here goes, my personal Top 5 of things I should have done in 2024:
Number 1. Travel overseas. We did a lot of it in 2023, and despite heaps of getting in and out of planes and hotels, it was a wonderful experience going to London (pictured at right) and Paris and a couple of other great places in between.
Number 2. Didn’t manage to attend a game at the two new football stadiums in Sydney and Parramatta, which means we still haven’t been there to see what the fuss is all about.
Number 3. Going to the Melbourne Cup is definitely in the bucket list – maybe in 2025.
Number 4. Same goes for an interstate game of State of Origin.
Number 5. We have been to the Sydney Opera House numerous times, just like everyone else, but have never attended a concert or a theatre show. Also on the bucket list, 2025?
Hi Eric,
I’m a long time reader of the South West Voice. Thanks, I love it. Local news, don’t always agree with your views, but I always find something that I did not know about or see a story that inspires.
I always find it’s better to recall the things that you did get to do each year rather than spend too much time concentrating on the things that you did not get to do.
The things that you did not get to do should just be added to your bucket list for next week, next month or next year. Hopefully the sooner the better!
Keep up the good work…
And best regards
Jan
