Marsden Park is already a great outdoor space, but even so it is about to get much, much better.
Work has already started on a $1.1 million brand new playground with the lot, which will replace what was a pretty basic amenity for children located right next to Campbelltown Hospital.
The new playground will feature climbing ropes, a large basket swing, flying fox, trampolines, toddlers swing set, see saw and slide.
There will also be a water play area and natural play area with balance beams and steppers, seating areas, picnic shelters and barbecue areas.
Semi-mature shade tree plantings and shade sails will complement the new facility, which is scheduled to be open in April – weather permitting.
The new playground is an initiative of Campbelltown Council, which is funding the bulk of the $1.1 million cost.
The state government is contributing $200,000 through the Places to play program.
Today, the mayor of Campbelltown, George Greiss, along with local MP Greg Warren, formally launched start of construction with a ceremonial turning of the sod.
“I think a playground like this is a great idea, a good contribution to the way the whole precinct works,’’ Cr Greiss said afterwards.
“You’ve got the exercise equipment area and a great connection with the walking tracks all around, so this is a great facility for the hospital and all those who visit.
“It adds a lot of value to Marsden Park, to those who live here and the health precinct around it,’’ he said.
Mr Warren, who was representing minister for planning and public spaces, said: “The best outcomes are achieved by working together.
“I am delighted to be here, working with Campbelltown City Council in our own home, for a great outcome – more than $1 million being invested into Park Central,’’ he said.
“Thank you Mr Mayor, and the council, who have put a lot of work into seeing this happen.
“And to be here today to turn the sod is really special because it’s in our own town.’’
