For eight days, starting on April 9, the spotlight will be on the young people of Campbelltown. Yes, another Youth Week is almost here, and that means another round of community events.

It’s a big celebration of youth and all the events are free to young people in Campbelltown and this year’s theme is “I am, we are the future, and the future is now’’.

This theme, or slogan, is a call to arms for young people up to around the age of 25, to empower their collective voice as future influencers, leaders and decision-makers -by celebrating their own unique strengths and skills.

“Youth Week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our young people and provide opportunities for them to come together and connect in the Campbelltown local government area, says Mayor Darcy Lound.

“We’ve worked closely with the Macarthur Homelessness Steering Committee, Campbelltown City Youth Interagency and our grant-funded local businesses and groups, to ensure our event program offers a variety of experiences and opportunities that support our young people, and the goals outlined in our 2024-2030 Youth Plan,” Mayor Lound said.

The NSW Youth Week program is supported by the NSW Government and includes a number of community events:

Rhyme & Reason – Hip-Hop Workshop by The Sedgewick Avenue Project (Tuesday 8 April, 11.30am to 6pm)

  • Youth Wellbeing Workshop by Horizon Youth (Thursday 10 April, 6.40pm to 9pm)
  • Comic-Writing and Panelling Workshop by OzComiX (Friday 11 April, 11am to 1pm)
  • Fitness Training Workshop by Big Heart Big Vision (Sunday 13 April, 7pm to 8.30pm)
  • Succulent & Plant Workshop by Lavender & Willow (Tuesday 15 April, 11am to 1.30pm)

As for the rest of us, we are being encouraged to support Youth Homelessness Matters Day on Wednesday, April 16 by purchasing a ticket to the Big Campbelltown Sleepout at Campbelltown Billabong Parklands in support of youth facing homelessness in the Macarthur region.

From 6pm, participants will be able to enjoy a variety of activities at the fundraising event, before taking part in an overnight sleepout.

The NSW Youth Week program is proudly supported by the NSW Government.
