A $154,800 grant to a local footy club will make it easier for women and girls in Macarthur to play sport and be active.
The Bradbury Ambarvale Football Club was selected to receive the funding under the Australian Government’s $200 million Play Our Way Program.
This is a program designed to remove barriers, address discrimination and promote equality for women and girls to participate in sport and physical activity.
The club, known as the Bears, will use the money to have four new light towers installed on their field to enable night games and extra training space.
The club has grown to have over 200 female players, and this funding will provide equal opportunities for all teams to have equal space for training.
Further, it will also create a safer environment for all players with better lighting around the ground.
The club is one of the 166 groups around the nation selected to receive Play Our Way funding for new or modified facilities for women and girls across a range of sports.
The federal member for Macarthur, Dr Mike Freelander, has welcomed the grant announcement.
“Congratulations to Bradbury Ambarvale Football Club for its successful application for this grant,’’ he said.
“I am confident its project will have a very positive effect for women and girls in our community.
“Every person has the right to enjoy sport, in their own way and at the level that suits them,” Dr Freelander said.
The grant has been made available under stream two of the Play Our Way Program.
The focus in stream two is on facilities for women and girls who face additional barriers to participation.
This includes women and girls who have a disability, are First Nations people or from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
