The 50th anniversary dinner of Wests Leagues Club promised to be the social event of the year in Macarthur and on Saturday night it delivered in spades.

The who’s who of the region were among the 400 special guests in the auditorium exactly 50 years to the day of the official opening of the Leumeah venue back in 1974.

The sophisticated celebration dazzled its guests with curated history displays, image galleries and videos.

It also featured a modern take on a 1970s style menu, while the entertainment included a special performance from a mirror ball acrobat and the award-winning tribute show The Vallies covering the ageless hits from Frankie Vallie and The Four Seasons.

There was much more to the night and the 50th-anniversary committee, which included club life member Tony Norton, current board deputy chair Paul Lake, CEO Daniel Perkiss, group marketing manager Katie Petkovski and executive assistant Patricia Deilman, delivered what most attendees declared was an “unforgettable night’’.

It was also a memorable night for 10 Wests members who each walked away with $5000 on Saturday night in the 50th anniversary $50,000 members cash draw promotion – the biggest one in the history of the club.

“We gathered not just to mark a milestone for the club, but to honour a legacy that has been built over half a century with many foundation directors, management and staff, and members of the Campbelltown City Kangaroos family that has been associated to both clubs,’’ Wests Group Macarthur said in a media statement.

“In addition, the event welcomed a list of esteemed guests, cherished partners, long-term employees, as well as a professional network of friends who have supported Wests along the way.

“Following an extensive member and community engagement plan, as well as significant promotional campaign that started in January, the event was the final element of a carefully curated history program with the 50th anniversary publication written by local historian Jeff McGill.

“This club was opened with the vision of ‘providing members and guests a social club with first-class facilities and to assist generally in the promotion and propagation of sport and community’.

“There is no doubt this is still very much the focus of everything we do today.’’
