Light Horse Park is set to be transformed into a beautiful riverside recreational precinct under a $36.7 million plan.
The State Government has approved funding up to almost $28 million for the project under its WestInvest Fund.
Liverpool Council will contribute $8.9 million towards the Light Horse Park Embellishment and Upgrade project.
In a media release, Premier Dominic Perrottet said once complete the Light Horse Park site, located between the Georges River and the railway line, would significantly improve amenity and safety for locals and visitors.
“This project will redevelop the foreshore to create an accessible, safe and welcoming park and construct a building to provide vital community services,” Mr Perrottet said.
Treasurer Matt Kean said the park would become a key location on the river for local events and provide a place to exercise, play and relax.
“The city of Liverpool is built adjacent to the mighty Georges River, but Light Horse Park is hard to access and underutilised,’’ he said.
“WestInvest will bring this important riverside park back to life.’’
The refurbished park will provide important connection pathways and points between the foreshore, Liverpool CBD and the railway station.
With numerous apartment buildings right next to the park, the makeover would give residents and their children an improved amenity for outdoor activities.
Liberal State Member for Holsworthy Melanie Gibbons welcomed the funding for Liverpool.
“This investment will help to bring life back into an underutilised area and provide another place for families and young people to enjoy,” Ms Gibbons said.
“Our commuters will also benefit from a safer, more connected and pleasant walk to the station.”
There was no mention in the media release when the work would take place, a start or finish date or if formal plans had been drawn up.
