Weed jungle in main street given beautiful makeover

Once upon a time this outdoor space next to the historic Old Campbelltown Post Office building was a local franchise of Pancakes on the Rocks.

Sadly, once that business closed the outdoor space was allowed to become a jungle of weeds – an ugly eyesore right in the heart of Campbelltown’s main street.

But not any more.

Thanks to a makeover as part of a project to use the space for creative pursuits has turned back the clock and today it looks better than ever.

Campbelltown Council say that at this stage preliminary works on the site structure have been completed, and are currently offering a public consultation for locals to help name the space at We Need Your Creativity | OverToYou

Council says the space has been devised as a “multipurpose creative space’’, for activities such as workshops, community engagement opportunities, performances, events and pop-up activations in Campbelltown CBD. Bookings are currently being accepted at: https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=dYzgwK8KN0G_p4dVyYaBWq5me0P4uPFLiC9DO9jVVaVUN0I3VTYyWjY0WkgzNVQzUTNBNjVGVk5CSC4u&route=shorturl

Campbelltown City Council, who own the space, and Campbelltown Arts Centre, worked together to revitalise the space.

Ideas for use being considered include as an interactive place for creatives to showcase their crafts, as well as host art events.

Construction works started in August.

“In our Community Strategic Plan 2032, we outlined a commitment to providing safe, accessible and inclusive facilities in our community,” former Mayor George Greiss said in announcing the project.

“Forum Q and our street artwork installations demonstrate how these spaces can be enhanced
in artistic and interactive ways and so I look forward to seeing our community benefit from this collaborative new space.’’
