Water security bid: Cataract Dam near Appin

Government agencies need to work together to provide a secure water supply for residents, businesses and farmers in the growing Wollondilly Shire, now and into the future.

In a bid to get the wheels in motion on this task, Wollondilly Council will host a water symposium on Wednesday, May 19.

The aim of the symposium will be to outline how water supply will be provided for such a growing region and answer community questions on this important issue.

A panel of representatives from Sydney Water, Department of Planning Industry & Environment, Water NSW and Wollondilly Council will be addressing some of the issues around water and responding to questions from attendees at the event in person and online.

“Our Shire is growing now and it is critical we prepare well for the future growth to come as well as drought and other climate impacts,” says Wollondilly mayor Robert Khan.

Having the key agencies together to outline their plans, answer questions and address the concerns of our community is a positive step forward.”

The water symposium is being held in response to a resolution made at the Ordinary Council meeting of March 16, 2021.

It will run from 6pm to 7.30pm inside the council chambers and by available to anyone interested via zoom.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the event will be ticketed through Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/water-symposiumtickets-153572652939 and numbers in the council chambers will be limited.

Those who can’t attend in person will be able to take part via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86172689536?pwd=a2xhVUU0YTRiR3 A5bDgvdkNHSTdqZz09

If you have questions you would like answered by the water symposium panel, they should be submitted by 5pm on Tuesday, May 18 via email to council@wollondilly.nsw.gov.au

Any questions that the panel cannot get to during the evening will be incorporated into an FAQ document to be distributed following the event.

  1. I dont think people in the Campbelltown area understand the implications of this, as all the drinking water for a huge area comes from Appin.
