Two South West Sydney volleyball teams have bagged gold at the regional academy games held in the NSW country town of Wagga Wagga late last month.

Both the boys and girls teams won their respective finals in straight sets, as well as going through the tournament undefeated.

The South West Sydney boys claimed back to back academy games titles by defeating the North Coast volleyball team in the final.

The South West Sydney girls defeated the volleyball team from fierce rivals Western Sydney academy in the final, which followed the boys’ decider.

Winning gold in 2023 was also a little bit of redemption for the girls’ runners-up effort a year earlier.

Winning both boys and girls finals capped off a successful tournament for the South Western Sydney Academy of Sport volleyball program, which is supported by SVSR Mini Crane Hire.

The winning weekend also continued South West’s success at the regional academies level, with the boys program now winning all three tournaments contested since volleyball was launched in late 2021.

The finals victories also confirmed both academy sides as favourites ahead of the Volleyball NSW academy challenge to be held in Port Macquarie in July.

The South West academy also fielded two development teams in Wagga Wagga, with both the boys and girls finishing fifth out of the eight academies competing this year.
