Almost $2 million worth of upgrades is under way at four sporting venues across Campbelltown.
The works, which consist of field irrigation, drainage and lighting upgrades, are taking place at Eschol Park Sports Complex (pictured above), Raby Sporting Complex, Jackson Park and Hazlett Oval.
“These significant projects will be important for ensuring the sustainability of our sporting complexes across our city,” says Mayor of Campbelltown Darcy Lound.
“This is a great example of local government and state government working together to ensure positive outcomes for sporting clubs that work hard to provide a healthy and quality lifestyle for our community,” Cr Lound said.
The projects have been jointly funded by Campbelltown City Council, the NSW Office of Sport essential community sports asset program, NSW Football Legacy Fund and Local Small Commitments Allocation.
The works include:
- Almost $1 million in funding for new drainage works at both Eschol Park Sports Complex Basin 1 and Basin 2. As part of this project, Basin 1 will also receive a brand-new fence.
- More than $550,000 in funding for new drainage works and field resilience works at Raby Sporting Complex’s Field 1 and Field 2.
- $350,000 in funding for new irrigation and drainage works at Jackson Park.
- $150,000 in funding for new flood lighting at Hazlett Oval.
Two of the projects are in the state electorate of Leppington, and local MP Nathan Hagarty says these upgrades would ensure that local athletes – whether they’re sporting greats or weekend warriors – had the facilities that they deserve.
“Sport brings together people, builds resilience and inspires the next generation,’’ he said.
“This investment is about making sure everyone in Leppington has the opportunity to play, compete and thrive,” Mr Hagarty said.
Work is already under way at Eschol Park Sports Complex and Raby Sporting Complex.
Campbelltown City Council says it will hand these assets over to the sporting community to enjoy in the coming months.
Works are complete at Jackson Park and Hazlett Oval, with both projects under the maintenance period with Council. However, these sports grounds have re-opened for the general public to use.
