Community feedback is being sought on the major upgrade being planned Cambridge Avenue at Glenfield.

Submissions must be lodged by December 8.

Once complete, the upgrade will extend Cambridge Avenue west to Campbelltown Road, resulting in a six-lane corridor with direct access to Campbelltown Road linking the Hume Motorway, M5 and M7.

The upgrade is essential to improve safety, traffic flow and access, and in the long term provide better connectivity with the job-generating Moorebank Intermodal and Logistics Park.

There will also be region wide benefits.

South West Sydney region is expected to grow from two to three million people over the coming 20 years.

“This congestion-busting upgrade will complement other works we are undertaking throughout the region to increase road capacity and improve safety,’’ says State MP for Macquarie Fields Anoulack Chanthivong.

“This includes projects such as the M5 Westbound Upgrade, Fifteenth Avenue Upgrade further to the north.

“By providing better connectivity we provide better alternatives for motorists and in doing so, relieve pressure on the surrounding road network,’’ he said.

The key features of the Cambridge Avenue project include:

  • Extension of Cambridge Avenue to the west to connect to Campbelltown Road as a six-lane road
  • A new bridge over the rail corridor, with the existing bridge converted for residents to walk and cycle
  • A new twin bridge over the Hume Motorway and removal of the existing bridge
  • New motorway ramps and a link road to connect Campbelltown Road, Camden Valley Way, the Hume Motorway, the M5 and M7
  • Widening of Campbelltown Road and upgrade of intersections to improve traffic flow
  • New shared paths for walking and cycling, linking to Glenfield Station and surrounding local streets, with opportunities to connect to the M7 cycleway and Leacock Regional Park
  • Improvements to drainage with new culverts, basins and swales
  • Utility relocation.

The upgrade will deliver significant travel time savings across the surrounding road network, including reductions of up to 14 minutes for Glenfield Road users.

Once completed, the upgraded Cambridge Avenue will ease congestion across South West Sydney, providing an additional east–west connection between key growth areas and supporting the growing freight line to Moorebank Logistics Park.

Moorebank Intermodal Terminal is expected to generate over 6,600 heavy and 10,000 light vehicle trips each day.

The upgrade will deliver the road capacity and connections needed to manage this demand, improving safety, travel reliability and access for local communities while supporting housing and jobs growth in Glenfield, Liverpool and Moorebank.

“The Albanese and Minns Government are working together to invest in the future of Sydney’s south west and to plan for the improvements our growing communities need now, and into the future., says Federal MP for Werriwa Anne Stanley.

“This important upgrade will link growing suburbs with key motorways, with added capacity to accommodate vehicle movements around the Moorebank Intermodal.”
