You don’t have to be a green thumb to know that a little TLC – tender loving care – will go a long way to ensuring a newly planted tree survives and thrives.
And when you’re taking about thousands of young trees it takes a village to ensure they grow up to be big and strong.
That’s the case in Camden, where there are new trees at every 10 paces, which is why the council is calling on the community to lend a hand.
More than 1,000 new street trees have just been planted and 800 more will be in the ground around the town by December.
That’s a lot of TLC required, so Council would like to see residents help nurture both new and existing trees.
The trees were planted in various locations across Camden, including Kingsdale Avenue, Catherine Field, above, and Richardson Road, Spring Farm (below).
With 1000 done and dusted, work has started on planting another 800 trees to be planted in Camden streets and parks in the next two months.
If you would like to ensure all these new trees thrive, join council’s Love Your Tree program.
Mayor of Camden Therese Fedeli says the new trees would need extra care throughout their lives.
“Camden is lucky enough to be set in a beautiful environment and adding even more trees will add to our tree canopy, while also making our local streets even more attractive,” Cr Fedeli said.
“Council will continue to maintain trees and we are asking the community to join us to give them a little bit of extra tender love and care.
“By joining the program, you can either look after a newly planted or established tree, with participants able to receive a tree care kit as well as vital information on how to care for their tree.
“I encourage residents to sign up to the fantastic initiative and help us nurture the beautiful environment we live in.”
The project is part of the Greening our City grant program jointly funded by the NSW Government and Local Government NSW.
