Residents of the South Western Sydney region will soon have access to a purpose-built $50 million integrated cancer care centre near Campbelltown railway station.
The cancer care centre, due to open in mid-2024, will feature medical and radiation oncology services, medical imaging, pathology, consultation suites, a clinical trials and research unit, and access to allied health services.
To celebrate the completion of the construction phase of the three storey building, a traditional topping out ceremony took place this morning, including a welcome to country speech by local elder Auntie Glenda.
Amanda Larkin, the CEO of South Western Sydney Local Health District and Campbelltown Mayor George Greiss were among the guests for the milestone ceremony.
The new integrated cancer care centre is the result of a partnership between Campbelltown City Council, Northwest Healthcare Properties, GenesisCare, and Erilyan.
Lumus Imaging has been confirmed as the medical imaging service provider, while Laverty Pathology will provide pathology services.
The cancer care centre is stage one of a new, state-of-the-art healthcare precinct along Hurley Street being developed by Northwest Healthcare Properties that will deliver other services such as day surgery, mental health, diagnostics, specialist consulting rooms, and primary and allied care.
This precinct is designed to meet the critical and rapidly growing need for private healthcare in the thriving Macarthur and South Western Sydney region.
“This is an exciting milestone for a project that will deliver a range of important healthcare services to our growing community,’’ says Mayor Greiss.
“Working together with our excellent public facilities, this project will enhance and expand the capacity of cancer treatment and research across the region.”
When it opens next year, the cancer centre will offer modern radiation and medical oncology treatments and technology, with access to a global network of clinical trials.
“We are excited to be part of this dedicated and important healthcare hub, offering personalised, evidence-based care to local cancer patients,’’ says Michael Davis, GenesisCare general manager,.
“We understand that being treated for cancer can be a stressful time and knowing that care is available close to home will hopefully be a relief for local patients.’’
The precinct site is surrounded by green open spaces, including Koshigaya Park to the east, and is centrally located with proximity to Western Sydney University, the Campbelltown CBD, Narellan Road and the M5.
