Supertees are specialty medical garments that are designed for critically ill and very sick children.
The idea is that the supertees allow these unfortunate children to receive the treatment they need comfortably, while feeling like a superhero at the same time.
The “birth’’ of the supertees is a story itself: Jason Sotiris, who was the 2023 Camden Council Australia Day Ambassador, came up with the concept.
It all happened just after his one year old daughter Angela was diagnosed with cancer.
Little Angela was given a 20 percent chance of survival.
One night – one of many – Jason was observing his daughter’s IV drips, heart monitors, and central lines when he realised he could come up with something that was not only practical but could also bring joy to the little ones undergoing medical treatment.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Last week Wests Group Macarthur made a major contribution to helping local kids in hospital when it funded the packing and delivery of hundreds of supertees into Campbelltown and Camden Hospitals.
Team Wests volunteers helped fold and pack more than 450 supertee tins containing personalised cards, stickers, bookmark and the newest Marvel superhero tee.
“This was a special day for our team and we can’t wait to get them into hospitals in the next couple of weeks,’’ a Wests Group representative said.
The tins will now go on to be distributed at the local hospitals.
Additional tees will be sent to families who have requested additional or new sizes for their children still in hospital.
Funding for the Wests supertee initiative was made available through Clubgrants 2023.
