An upgrade to the BMX Park Adventure Play at Tahmoor Sportsground is now complete.

An official opening was held yesterday at the track with Mayor Matt Gould, Member for Wollondilly Judy Hannan and several Wollondilly councillors taking part.

The Member for Blacktown Stephen Bali was there representing Places to Play.

A demonstration by local BMX riders involved in the Born to Ride Freestyle Association was part of the official proceedings.

“The upgrades to the park were appreciated by the riders and I recently had an opportunity to have a BMX ride there myself,’’ Mayor Matt Gould said.

“I haven’t ridden a bike for years and I really enjoyed getting back out there.

“Thanks to Mick and Loryn from Born to Ride Freestyle Association who organised for the riders to come along to provide some great entertainment and show the rest of us how it’s done.’’

This project was funded by a $100,000 grant received through the NSW Government’s Places to Play program.

The program helps to increase equitable access to public open space through a $16.7million investment in projects that provide for adventure, nature and water-based play activities such as mountain biking, scooter and skate places and pump tracks.

The project involved removing and rebuilding the beginner / intermediate jump lines with better designed and more sustainable jump trails.

There are now a range of jump sizes and styles with straight jumps, hip jumps and no-gap jumps which all help cater to a range of different skills and abilities.

The no-gap jumps provide more opportunities for riders to progress through the different levels as their skill and confidence increases.

As well, the no-gap jumps also ensure more sustainable jumps that are less subjected to erosion.

The starting ramp was also reshaped and a feature wall ride installed at the end of the jumps trail.
