Major resurfacing works have started at the main playing field of the home of Macarthur soccer, Lynwood Park in St Helens Park.

Campbelltown Council says the work marks a significant investment in local sports infrastructure.

The $966,000 project is funded by council and will deliver a high quality, all-weather surface to replace the existing artificial pitch at the facility that’s home to the Macarthur Rams.

Mayor Darcy Lound said the investment would help to support the continued growth of football in the region and provide a top-class surface for elite and community sport.

“Lynwood Park is one of our city’s premier soccer venues, and these works will ensure that it continues to provide an outstanding playing surface that meets the needs of both grassroots and high-performance players,” Cr Lound said.

“This resurfacing project is part of our broader commitment to investing in quality sports infrastructure across our community,” he said.

The project uses a recycled cork infill throughout the playing surface in order to provide better environmental outcomes for the facility.

“This new surface will ensure the surrounding bushland of the Lynwood Park precinct is better protected in the long term,” Cr Lound said.

Concerns had been expressed during the last term of council that some types of artificial turf were bad for the environment, especially waterways.

Lynwood park is located close to the Georges River.
