
An unlicensed driver returned a breath-alcohol reading more than six times the legal limit after being stopped by Highway Patrol officers near Menangle on Saturday night.
He has been banned from driving until his court appearance late this month.
Officers attached to Camden Highway Patrol responded to calls from the public concerned about the way an SUV was being driven north along the Hume Highway.
The vehicle was stopped at 10.40pm, and the driver was subjected to a roadside breath test, which proved positive.
The 37-year-old man was arrested and taken to Narellan Police Station where he underwent a breath analysis, which returned an alleged reading of 0.317.
Checks also revealed the man’s provisional licence had expired more than two years ago.
The man has been issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice for high range PCA, and driving on an expired licence.
He is due to appear in Picton Local Court on April 17.

In a separate incident, a man has appeared in court charged over an armed robbery on a train.
Police say that last Thursday [March 27], officers from the Police Transport Command responded to reports a man had allegedly been threatened with a knife while on a train.
Officers were told a 57-year-old man was on board a train at Cabramatta when he was approached by a man who allegedly threatened him with a knife before demanding money.
Police intercepted the train at Minto Railway Station and arrested a 30-year-old man.
He was taken to Campbelltown Police station where he was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon, possess prohibited drug, possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs, travel or attempt travel without valid ticket and demand property with menaces with intent to steal.
He was refused bail to appear before Campbelltown Local Court last Friday [March 28].
