Another crane is now gracing the skyline of Campbelltown town centre following the start of work on a $112.2 million expansion of Macarthur Health Precinct in Hurley Street.
Representatives from Campbelltown City Council, Vital Healthcare Property Trust and Erilyan were joined on site today by State Member for Campbelltown Greg Warren, the precinct’s healthcare providers and members of the community to celebrate the commencement of construction.
The turning of the first sod marked a significant investment in healthcare services for Campbelltown and the wider Macarthur region – as well as the symbolic start of construction.
The six storey development opposite Koshigaya Park will deliver a short-stay surgical hospital and medical outpatient building with more than 9,000 sqm of net lettable area.
Completion is targeted for early 2028.
Ramsay Health Care will anchor the development with a short-stay surgical hospital.
Sonic Healthcare is expected to establish a pathology collection centre and laboratory, while Lumus Imaging will expand its existing presence within the precinct.
Stage 2 builds on the GenesisCare integrated cancer and health centre, which Vital completed in March 2024 across the road.
The new building has been designed with the needs of the growing Macarthur community in mind and will provide residents with convenient access to a broader range of healthcare services closer to home.
The building is targeting a 5 Star Green Star rating and is centrally located near Campbelltown Public Hospital, Campbelltown’s city centre, Western Sydney University, Narellan Road and the M5.
“Today was an exciting moment for Campbelltown and the future of healthcare in our region,’’ Campbelltown Mayor Darcy Lound said at the official function.
“As our community continues to grow, it’s important that our residents can access the health services they need close to home. This precinct will bring more healthcare services into the heart of our city and make quality care more accessible to people across Macarthur.
“I’m proud to see Council land being used to deliver something that will have such a lasting benefit for our community.
“This is an investment in the future of our city, creating jobs, attracting investment and strengthening Campbelltown’s role as the capital of the Macarthur region.
“It’s also a great example of what we can achieve when Council works closely with our private sector and healthcare partners to deliver projects that make a real difference to our community.”
Vital chief executive officer Chris Adams said: “Vital invests in critical healthcare infrastructure for the long term and this development reflects the confidence we have in Campbelltown and the wider Macarthur region.
“The successful delivery of Stage 1 established the foundations for an integrated healthcare precinct,’’ he said.
“We are now building on that investment with a much larger second stage that will introduce new essential services to the local community, including surgical capacity on site.
“The commitments from Ramsay Health Care, Sonic Healthcare and Lumus Imaging demonstrate the need for high-quality healthcare infrastructure in Sydney’s South-West.’’
Construction follows extensive planning between the project partners.
Erilyan co-founder Tim Curtin said today: “Erilyan is proud to continue its involvement in the Macarthur Health Precinct. Our focus is now on delivering a high-quality facility that serves its healthcare providers well and makes a lasting contribution to the community.”
