After years of construction, we finally have a date of what could be the first commercial internation al flight out of Western Sydney International airport.

November 23, that’s the date for what certainly will be the first flight by Singapore Airlines out of WSI.

It’s possible another airline may get the jump on Singapore Airlines but that remains to be seen.

But as of today, those planning to travel in November can jump online and be amongst the first to purchase tickets to fly from Australia’s new 24-hour global gateway.

As part of the announcement this morning, Simon Hickey, the CEO of WSI, described it as an historic moment for everyone who’s played a role in bringing the international airport of Western Sydney to life.

“We mark a terrific milestone moment today with our first international airline partner, Skytrax certified 5-Star carrier Singapore Airlines, now giving passengers the first opportunity to book tickets from Western Sydney International Airport,” he said.

“Not only will WSI increase aviation capacity in the Sydney basin, giving travelling more choice and flexibility on when, where and how they choose to fly – our 24 hour services will unlock new routes with Singapore Airlines for everyone across Greater Sydney to enjoy.

“Singapore Airlines will operate daily non-stop flights from November 23 that will depart WSI just before midnight, with passengers arriving at the award-winning Changi Hub around 5am – offering a new era of global connectivity for Sydney-siders.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with a global top-tier carrier in Singapore Airlines, with whom we share a deep commitment to offering our customers a safe, modern, seamless travel experience supported by the latest innovations and technologies via our state-of-the-art terminal.”

Singapore Airlines’ inaugural services from WSI will include a daily non-stop flight between Singapore and WSI, beginning on November 23.

The service will depart Singapore at 11.30am (local time) and arrive at WSI at 10.20pm (local time).

The service will then depart WSI on the same day at 11.55pm and arrive in Singapore at 5.05am (local time) the following morning.

The daily services will operate on Airbus A350-900 medium-haul aircraft, which features 303 seats in two cabin classes: 40 in Business Class and 263 in Economy Class.

Mr Dai Haoyu, senior vice president marketing planning of Singapore Airlines, said the new services will deliver more choice and strengthen connectivity for the airline’s customers.

“Singapore Airlines’ services to Australia’s newest gateway at Western Sydney will deliver more choice and strengthen connectivity to this popular destination for our customers,” he said.

“Western Sydney’s late-night departure capacity will enable a seamless travel journey and connections through Singapore Changi Airport, to more than 130 global destinations served by the SIA Group.”
