Two men have been charged following an investigation into a public place shooting near Campbelltown last year which appears to be related to domestic violence.

A parked and unoccupied vehicle was found damaged at the scene in Bailley Street, Leumeah when police arrived in the early hours of June 20, 2023.

There were no reports of any person being injured, just shots fired.

Officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command established a crime scene and inquiries into the incident commenced under Strike Force Fatherigay.

A 41-year-old man was arrested at Wetherill Park later that day and was taken to Fairfield Police Station; however, he was charged with unrelated matters.

Around 10.30am yesterday (Monday, January 8), the now 42-year-old man was arrested at a hotel on the Hume Highway, Cabramatta.

He was taken to Fairfield Police Station and charged with:

  • Two counts of supplying a prohibited firearm to an unauthorised person
  • Supply a pistol to a person unauthorised to possess it
  • Supply a prohibited drug greater than small and less than or equal to indictable quantity
  • Fire firearm (not at dwelling) disregarding safety (DV)
  • Contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (DV)
  • Driver not disclose identity of driver/passenger as required

Around that same time, strike force detectives arrested a 33-year-old man during a vehicle stop on Nardoo Street, Ingleburn.

He was taken to Campbelltown Police Station and charged with three counts of acquiring a prohibited firearm from an unauthorised supplier and drive while licence was suspended.

The two men were refused bail to appear before local courts today (Tuesday 9 January 2024); the 42-year-old at Fairfield and the 33-year-old at Campbelltown.
