Visitors to the new Campbelltown City Library location on Queen Street will now be greeted by a special artistic display at the entrance to the building.

The artwork by contemporary artist Lynda Draper is titled “Shimmer’’ and includes a series of illuminated glass pavers incorporated into the new footpath area at the entrance to the building.

The glass pavers are shaped like puddles and custom coloured to create a light display in the evenings and add colour to the streetscape during the day.

Lynda Draper is a well-known contemporary artist from Thirroul and a lifelong arts educator working primarily in the ceramics medium but recently expanding her practice through experimentations with glass that began during her 2024 artist residency at Canberra Glassworks.

Draper headed up the Sydney National Arts School Ceramics Department from 2016 until 2023 and has a survey solo exhibition coming up at Campbelltown Arts Centre opening in December this year.

Draper’s art practice explores the intersection between dreams and reality, with a rare and masterful approach to form, materiality and tactility.

The Queen Street Library entrance artwork will include custom coloured, cast and shaped illuminated glass puddles effortlessly sprinkled onto the pathway.

The Mayor of Campbelltown Darcy Lound certainly likes it.

“The artwork is a great enhancement to the library entrance making it more welcoming to visitors and improving the aesthetic of Queen Street,” he says.

“The response from the community has been fantastic, with thousands of people coming in each week to enjoy this accessible central location and helping to revitalise the surrounding precinct,” Mayor Lound said.

As for the artist herself she “hopes the artwork will bring a beautiful, gentle, magical moment onto Queen Street for people of all ages to enjoy’’.
