The addition of Woodlands, a big and bold children’s play precinct, will make the Sherwood Macarthur in Leumeah the largest family entertainment zone in South West Sydney.

Wests Group Macarthur has announced that work has already started on Woodlands and completion is expected either at the end of the year or early in 2027.

Developed in partnership with leading playground and recreation specialist KOMPAN, The Woodlands will deliver a world-class family experience designed to inspire adventure, imagination and active play for children of all ages.

Drawing inspiration from the legendary Sherwood Forest and Robin Hood, The Woodlands will be an expansive treehouse-inspired play precinct almost double the size of the venue itself.

It will feature towering cube structures up to nine metres high, interconnected climbing mesh, water and sensory play zones, basketball courts, an outdoor viewing screen and an arcade games zone.

Younger adventurers will enjoy their own dedicated toddler play area, the Spellbound Shack.

The project builds on the success of The Sherwood Macarthur, which opened in 2023 and has welcomed thousands of members and visitors while establishing itself as a vibrant community hub alongside the Wests Tennis Centre in Leumeah.

Designed by Curtin Architects, the team behind The Sherwood’s original development, The Woodlands has been brought to life in collaboration with KOMPAN play consultants Play by Design, including Michael Armati and Michael Higgins, and the Wests Group Macarthur Building and Development team.

Led by Site Manager Jason Williams, The Woodlands project is now under way and will be delivered with the support of Play by Design and local contractors and trades.

Complementing the new play space will be an exciting new family friendly café and dedicated kids’ sweets counter within The Sherwood, serving hot donuts, lollies, loaded soft serve, gelato, snow cones, old-fashioned milkshakes and light meals and creating the perfect place for families, birthday parties and group bookings to enjoy.

“The Woodlands represents the next stage in the evolution of The Sherwood Macarthur,’’ says

Wests Group Macarthur chief executive officer Daniel Perkiss.

“This is much more than a playground. The Woodlands has been designed as a complete family entertainment destination where children can spend hours exploring, climbing and playing while parents enjoy the great food and hospitality they have come to expect from a Wests Group Macarthur venue.’’

KOMPAN Australia managing director Debbie Chambers says the company are excited to work with Wests Group Macarthur on a project of scale and ambition.

“The Woodlands will set a new benchmark for family recreation in South West Sydney and will be one of the most significant play projects delivered by KOMPAN in Australia,’’ Ms Chambers said.

“The Woodlands is exactly the type of project KOMPAN is passionate about delivering. It combines adventure, physical activity and family fun in a way that creates lasting value for the community.’’

Julia Maulguet, the Sherwood venue manager, said the new café serving sweets and treats would provide families across South West Sydney with a hospitality and entertainment destination unlike anything currently available in the region.

“We’re incredibly excited about the next chapter at The Sherwood,’’ she said.
