Campbelltown MP Greg Warren has demanded the state government use any funds from the sale of the old Campbelltown RMS site to establish a Service NSW centre in Campbelltown.

Mr Warren recently took to the floor of the Parliament of NSW to raise the issue via a notice of motion.

Plans to develop a high rise precinct in and around the area in the vicinity of the old RMS site were recently revealed.

The RMS office was closed in 2015, with a Service NSW centre established in Gregory Hills instead.

The closure occurred despite the state government promising to establish a Service NSW centre in Campbelltown back in 2014.

“The people of Campbelltown were completely blindsided by the NSW Liberals’ decision to close the Campbelltown RMS office,” Mr Warren said.

“That irrational and irresponsible decision has caused mass inconvenience for Campbelltown residents.

“It makes sense that any funds from the sale are used to deliver the Service NSW centre in Campbelltown that this state government originally promised to build way back in 2014.

“We aren’t asking for anything extraordinary, just for this government to deliver on its promise – albeit, far too many years late.

“The Macarthur region is the fastest growing region in the state and Campbelltown is the central hub of that region.

“We need, and importantly deserve, a Service NSW centre in the Campbelltown local government area.”

Mr Warren’s four point notice of motion is below:

  • Acknowledges there are plans to develop a large residential precinct where the site of the old Campbelltown RMS site is
  • Notes that the Campbelltown RMS was closed in favour of a Service NSW Centre in Gregory Hills, in 2015
  • Recognises the Campbelltown community’s desire for a Campbelltown Service NSW centre
  • Urges the government to use the proceeds from the sale of the old Campbelltown RMS site to fund the establishment of a Campbelltown Service NSW centre
