Wollondilly Shire Council has welcomed the NSW Government’s announcement that the sod has been turned on construction of a new high school at Wilton.
Council says this brings the area one step closer to having a much needed second public high school.
“I’d like to congratulate the NSW Government on reaching this milestone and particularly thank the Member for Wollondilly, Judy Hannan, for her strong work towards making this happen,’’ Mayor Matt Gould said.
“This project demonstrates a strong partnership between the local Member, Council and the NSW Government gets results.
“The sod turn means that the school should be on track to open at the beginning of 2027 and be completed in 2028 as planned with capacity for up to 1,000 students, so that local families can send their kids to school closer to home.,’’ Mayor Gould said.
“At the same time, we are now seeing an increased investment from the government in water and wastewater at Wilton, which demonstrates that our advocacy for this growing community and engagement with the government on these important issues is having an impact.
“With the high school now under way, council will focus on our next advocacy priorities for the growth area and the wider Shire.
“This includes an integrated healthcare hub at Wilton and extension of the T8 rail line to Wilton, so that our residents aren’t forced to travel 25km or more for urgent health care, and a modern, effective public transport system to connect our residents across the Shire to major centres for work, education and essential services.
“I look forward to seeing the construction of the Wilton high school progress and the first students enter its fresh new doors in Term 1 of 2027.”
