With the rise of scams in recent years, it is crucial that Australians remain vigilant and act quickly if they think they have been scammed, says the Member for Werriwa, Anne Stanley.

“Scams are increasingly difficult to recognise and are becoming more frequent,’’ says Ms Stanley.

“Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and aware.’’

To assist residents in her electorate to become more scam savvy, Ms Stanley will be hosting a community forum on scams next month.

Stephen Jones, assistant treasurer and minister for financial services in the Albanese Government will be also taking part in the forum.

“The forum will be an opportunity for people to learn ways to protect themselves from scams, know what to do if they are targeted by a scam, and hear about the steps the government is taking to crack down on this crime,’’ says Ms Stanley.

“I look forward to hosting assistant minister Jones in Werriwa to discuss how to best protect ourselves.

“If you are unable to attend but are concerned about scams, my office has copies of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s The Little Black Book of Scams handbook with useful information.’’

The details of the forum are as follows:

When: Thursday, February 22;

What time: 10am – 11.30am;

Where: Liverpool Catholic Club.

Spots are limited, so if you are interested in attending or would like a copy of The Little Black Book of Scams, contact the office of Ms Stanley 8783 0977 or email Anne.Stanley.MP@aph.gov.au
