Police will address the media this afternoon after tracking down and taking action against a man who threw a drink container at a truck during a road rage incident last week.

It will be alleged that just before 11am last Tuesday, a B-double truck was merging onto the Hume Highway southbound from Williamson Road at Ingleburn, when a man in the front passenger seat of a Subaru Impreza allegedly threw a can of drink at the truck, hitting its windscreen.

Having become aware of vision (pictured above) circulating on social media of the dangerous display of behaviour, officers attached to the Traffic and Highway Command commenced inquiries and spoke with the truck driver.

Within a week, police identified the 22-year-old passenger of the Impreza, who was hit with two penalty notices: one for throwing the drink container ($780) and for not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident ($344).

The truck did not sustain any damage and no action was taken against the driver of the Impreza.

Chief Inspector Philip Brooks from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command – who will be speaking to the media from 2.30pm – said this was just one example of the determination police have to track down those endangering the safety of others on the roads.

“This kind of reckless behaviour could have easily led to serious injury or worse. Police will continue to do everything in their power to keep the state’s roads safe and take action against those who threaten that safety,” Insp Brooks said.
