Raised islands with additional stop or give-way signs, as well as raised thresholds and street lighting will be installed in Riverside Drive, Airds between Deans Road and Tower Avenue.
As part of the urban renewal program under way for Airds, Riverside Drive, a circular thoroughfare that links numerous streets, has also been undergoing a makeover.
But as the population of Airds increases so does the road traffic, and Riverside Drive (pictured above) requires measures to raise the level of safety for motorists who use it.
That’s why it has been included in funding for four known crash sites around Campbelltown.
Member for Macarthur Dr Mike Freelander says almost $900,000 has been allocated for the work under the 2024–25 Black Spot Program.
Wedderburn Road, south of Pademelon Avenue, Wedderburn, will see installation of vehicle activated signs and audio-tactile transverse line marking.
The Parkway, south of Campbellfield Avenue in Bradbury, will be upgraded to a high level non-skid surface. A raised threshold will be installed, as well as slow points and a wombat pedestrian crossing.
About one kilometre south of Woodland Road, on St Helens Park Drive, St Helen’s Park, a new curve and advisory speed signs will be installed, along with curve alignment markers and raised thresholds.
Dr Freelander says these projects will make an important contribution towards reducing serious injuries and deaths for all road users in Macarthur.
“At these locations we’ve seen a high number of incidents,’’ he says.
“This makes them a clear case for the safety improvements that we’re announcing.
“I know there is more work to be done, and encourage anyone who knows of a dangerous road location near them to consider submitting a nomination for future funding rounds.
“Road safety, of course, is a shared responsibility, and this is a timely reminder to be extra vigilant and to slow down on the roads so everyone can get home safely from every journey.”
