Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living at Mount Annan now boasts a reverse vending machine – and about time, too.
The not for profit charity organisation is focused on supporting the community via sustainable education.
Sustainable practices for schools, homes, urban precincts, and businesses are provided at the centre.
The centre also displays and demonstrates alternative energy production, waste water recycling, water and energy efficiency, sustainable food production, recycling, and waste avoidance, while providing a beautiful green space environment.
Yet it did not get a return and earn vending machine until more than 600 others were established across NSW.
But as local MP Peter Sidgreaves pointed out the reverse vending machine at Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living at Mount Annan is the seventh installed in his Camden electorate.
“It’s a real win for the local community,” he said.
“By using this return point, in combination with your household recycling collection, we can all do our bit to reduce the millions of containers that are littered in the NSW environment each year while being rewarded for our efforts.”
Consumers receive a 10 cent refund for each eligible bottle, can or carton they return or can choose to donate their refund to one of the onscreen charity partners available on the machine.
Users of the Mount Annan machine will have the option to print a voucher for the refund amount or alternatively they can opt for an e-voucher or payment into their PayPal account by downloading the MyTOMRA app before visiting.
Return and Earn has also introduced touch free recycling at all vending machine locations, enabling users to return their cans, bottles and containers easily without needing to touch anything other than their own containers.
