The future of recreation is looking good for Camden residents: Camden Council at its May ordinary meeting gave the green light to a $4 million tender to Regal Innovations Pty Ltd for the construction of the first stage of the Leppington open space precinct.

Located adjacent to Rickard Road, this work will include the construction of shared paths, drainage works, retaining walls, riparian corridor rehabilitation with riparian planting, bank stabilisation, new street tree planting and signage.

Council also accepted grant funding of $288,805 from the NSW Office of Responsible Gambling, which will enable additional works to be included into the scope of the stage 1 open space works at The Crest, Gledswood Hills.

Upon completion of Stage 1A of The Crest, the site will include a learn-to-ride track, cycling skill development items, beginner mountain bike track and supporting features including amenities and parking.

Other elements in future stages of The Crest will include a play space and multipurpose courts which will provide a high-quality cycling and family friendly destination that promotes bicycle skill development in Camden.

Mayor of Camden, Cr Ashleigh Cagney, said it was an exciting time in the recreational areas space in Camden.

“It’s fantastic to be taking such big and exciting steps forward on key projects like these, as they’ll be pivotal to our community now and as we grow in the future,” Mayor Cagney said.

“The work in Leppington is a key example of this. The first stage of works is just one of four land areas in the Leppington Oval Precinct Masterplan – it also includes the sports precinct, the community centre and the public reserve.

“It’s no secret that Leppington is a key strategic centre for us and will be key to seeing successful growth in our area in the coming years.

“I look forward to seeing these projects, and others like them, come to life and, by far the best part, will be seeing our community use and benefit from them every day.”
