Wollondilly Council’s 2023-24 budget is set to deliver an unprecedented allocation towards sporting facilities across the entire shire.
A range of new facilities and upgrades will make recreational activities more accessible for everyone.
The allocation is part of a massive $56.1 million investment into roads and infrastructure from Warragamba to Yanderra, Oakdale to Menangle and Appin to Thirlmere.
Mayor Matt Gould said he couldn’t be happier.
“I am delighted that this draft 2023/24 Operational Plan and Budget invests significantly in our parks and sportsgrounds, on top of our massive roads program,’’ he said.
“Residents right across our 2500 square kilometre shire will see the benefits of this record infrastructure spend.
“Sportsgrounds and parks are at the heart of our communities and provide a place for our community to enjoy outdoor recreation opportunities, supporting people to lead healthy and active lifestyles while also giving them a strong sense of enjoyment and belonging through engaging with their various sports clubs and organisations.”
In 2023/24 the following sporting complexes will receive new or upgraded facilities:
• Douglas Park Sportsground – upgrade to lighting and sportsground renewal
• The Oaks, Willis Park – sportsground renewal
• Appin, Gordon Lewis Oval – reconstruction of oval
• Picton Sportsground – new community facility
• Tahmoor Sportsground – renewed soccer and cricket fields.
The following parks will also see new or upgraded facilities:
• Old Menangle School Site – new landscaping works
• Picton Botanic Gardens – renewed amenities and playground
• Redbank Park, Picton – dog park and amenities building
• Dean McGrath Park, Menangle – upgrade.
Already this year improvements at Birrahlee Park, Yanderra (pictured above) have been completed and a new playground at Dudley Chesham Sportsground is almost ready to use.
