Rangers keep finals hopes alive with 1-0 victory

The Narellan Rangers have kept their finals hopes alive, after overcoming a gallant Eschol Park in round nine of the M-League competition.

Daniel Kinder scored the only goal of the game with just nine minutes left on the clock.

The 1-0 win takes the Rangers to 13 points and in fifth position, behind Mt Annan on goal difference.  

The Mustangs made light work of Harrington on Saturday night, picking up the three points with an emphatic 12-1 victory.

The Rangers and Mustangs face-off in a season-defining match on Wednesday (August 26) evening at Cunningham Park. This will be the first meeting between the two sides this season.

In other men’s games, Oran Park regained top spot after a 2-0 win at home against the Tigers.

This was the second meeting between the two sides, with the Rovers saluting on both occasions.

The Tigers will need to regroup quickly, with a mouth-watering grand final replay against Gunners SC at Bensley Road under the Thursday night lights.

Gunners secured second spot after a 3-1 victory over Ingleburn.

Other mid-week matches this week sees Eschol Park host Oran Park, while Harrington and Ingleburn will have the chance to pick up some much needed points when they square-off on Wednesday night.

WOMEN’S M-LEAGUE WRAP:

Tigers defeated Harrington 5-0.

The Tigers made it eight from eight with a comfortable 5-0 win over cellar-dwellers Harrington United.

The Hornets kept the Tigers scoreless to halftime, but it was the usual suspects in front of goal thereafter, with Tenealle Hay (55’, 78’), Stacey Anderson, (59’), Amy Ward (65’) and Toni Cooper (75’) hitting the scoresheet.

In other matches, Ingleburn remain just five points behind the Tigers in second spot, with an Amanda Radmillo hat-trick helping the Eagles easily account for Narellan 7-0.

Oran Park kept their finals hopes alive with a 5-0 win over St Mary’s.

The Rovers are now just one point adrift of fourth places Narellan. The two teams will face-off in a season-defining clash on Wednesday night at the “Roverdome’’.

Tahmoor and Eschol Park played out a scoreless draw in windy conditions. The result was enough for the Taipans to regain third place on the table.   

Harrington and Eschol Park will have a chance to pick up some points when they square-off at Lynwood Park tonight (August 25)

St Mary’s will be the next team to challenge the Tigers, when they face off for the first time on Wednesday night.
