Macarthur Rams have gone top of the ladder after a 6-0 rout of Manly United on the weekend.
After the completion of Round 24 of the National Premier Leagues Women’s NSW competition the 2023 champions have grabbed a two point lead over Apia Leichhardt with just three games remaining before the finals.
The Macarthur girls made a statement in their 6-0 demolition of Manly United Cromer Park: come and get us if you want.
Macarthur took just four minutes to open their account.
Bronte Trew tucked the ball home after being slipped through by a delicate touch from Kelli Brown.
The Rams then doubled their lead 32 minutes later after the home side’s Jodie Drever mishandled a corner into her own net.
A third goal would arrive for the Rams just before half-time, with Melissa Caceres displaying top shelf skills to take down a Manly clearance and drive home a scorching half-volley into the back of the net from the centre of the box.
Caceres was at the heart of her side’s fourth goal as she weaved her way through a crowded Manly defence before eventually working the ball out to Brown, who made no mistake in burying her finish for 4-0 with still 25 minutes left to play.
Brown and Bethany Gordon linked up 15 minutes later for the Rams’ fifth goal of the evening.
The pair forced Manly to relinquish possession, leaving Brown with time to play Gordon into space for a confident finish.
Gordon also put the finishing touches on a dominant performance by the Rams, curling the ball in from a free kick on the left edge of the box to make it 6-0 just three minutes from fulltime.
Rams return home this Sunday, August 18 to host the Bulls FC Academy team, 5pm kick off, at Lynwood Park’s synthetic field.
The Bulls, who had been travelling well in recent weeks and looked headed for a finals spot, suffered a 1-0 loss at home to Sydney University on the weekend.
They are still not out of contention for the top four, but will need to win at least two of their last three games, starting with the big clash at Lynwood Park.
