When it comes to education, safety around our schools is just as important as academic results.
As a teacher herself, Sally Quinnell, the Labor candidate for the seat of Camden, has first hand experience of what local schools need when it comes to safety.
Last week Ms Quinnell joined Labor’s shadow minister for roads John Graham (pictured above) to announce that a NSW Labor Government will spend $1.5 million towards upgrading school safety across the Camden electorate.
“Safety around schools should be our number one priority and is particularly important in rapidly growing areas like this,’’ Mr Graham said.
“Under a Minns Labor government, Camden will see necessary upgrades to school safety crossings across the area.”
Ms Quinnell said that schools would be placed in order of priority to receive part of the funding for any safety improvements required.
“Nothing is more important than knowing our kids can get to and from school safely,’’ Ms Quinnell said.
“Parents tell me there are too many dangerous crossings outside schools.’’
Ms Quinnell said two local schools in particular required urgent attention to improve safety for children, parents and teachers.
“I’ve spent hours at Spring Farm Public School and Camden South Public School and the crossing situation for our kids is just not good enough.
“But in some cases it may be something small that needs to be done to improve safety, in schools such as Paul’s Catholic Primary school for example,’’ Ms Quinnell said.
“With the $1.5 million we will have a priority list after talking to schools and get the work done to make things safer for our children.’’
